In 1925, William P. Stein started a one-man accounting practice in New Albany, IN. The Louisville CPA firm of Brown and Imhof purchased Mr. Stein's practice in 1937, and two years later V.G. Monroe became the manager of Brown and Imhof's New Albany office.

With a growing client base, Monroe Shine opened an office in Bedford, Indiana in 1968. After achieving success with the Bedford office, the Firm opened an office in Louisville, Kentucky in 1978.
